A few months after turning 50 I weighed myself. I knew it wouldn’t be good. I’d been wearing size 22 pants and baggy size 3X tops for a couple of years already. Even more importantly, I had reached a point where I was honestly concerned when I went to sleep at night that I might not wake up.
Any activity would leave me embarrassingly winded. I’d always take the elevator – I wouldn’t even make excuses, anyone with me knew I couldn’t make the stairs. On airplanes I would ask quietly for a seat belt extender. The flight attendants were discreet when they passed it to me – obviously embarrassed on my behalf. Friends were kind – they would slow down so I could keep up with life.
But back to the scale – I was nervous in case I’d reached the dreaded 300 lbs, but I figured that I might have. I had recently bought size 24 jeans – the largest they had at the plus size store. The number was 319 (not 320 – though who am I fooling – if I’d had a glass of water prior to the weigh in, it would have been).
I had a serious 50 year old talk with myself. I decided that I either had to accept that this was me or do something about it. I waffled a bit, but ultimately I started making changes.
By June 2010, I had lost about 50 lbs by controlling my food but I’d been plateauing for a few months. I still weighed over 250 lbs and the only exercise I did was walking my dog – maybe a little faster, but not by much. It was slow going.
Then I met with Kyla Gagnon. I was reluctant at first - I guess didn’t really think that I deserved this, that I was good enough, and that I was ‘too fat’ to work out in public. I am so grateful to my friend Jamie, who brought Kyla into my life.
Kyla asked how I would feel about working out for an hour in the morning? Before work – at 6 a.m. –
no kidding!
It turned out to be awesome. I would meet Kyla two mornings a week. Without knowing that she would be there waiting for me, I don’t honestly know if I would have made it. Plus – the early morning solved that issue that I have about working out in public – there was hardly ever anyone else to see me!Kyla wasn’t like those trainers you see on TV who yell at people. She is always 100% positive and when you meet the challenges that she puts in front of you – she makes you feel so proud of yourself that you just know you’re going to keep striving to achieve more every day.
As I write this in October 2011, I have lost another 70 lbs in a little over a year since I’ve been working with Kyla - bringing my total loss to 120. It’s not just the number on the scale though - I’ve been at this weight before in my life, and am wearing smaller sizes than I did then because my body is so toned.
I am constantly amazed by what I can do now. When we started out and Kyla would show me a new exercise, like burpees – I was doubtful – but she wasn’t. She believed in me and then I would give it my best shot and when she was proved right and I could do it, I learned to believe in myself.
I have such certainty now that I will reach my goals. Doubt just isn’t there! This confidence that Kyla has helped me build has affected all parts of my life. It’s all so connected. I get up early, work out, and then have a better day, then I can sleep well and I have more mental stamina.
I can’t thank Kyla enough for everything she’s done to help me to change my life and I can’t wait to see where I’ll be this time next year with her training and coaching.

Kyla is a miracle worker!
She has not only changed two couch potatoes into two people addicted to boot camp but has kept us committed for over two years!!!
When I first started boot camp I was a little hesitant so I convinced my husband to come for moral support. Two years later, we're both still going and don't think we could ever stop. Kyla is a big part of this commitment as she not only encourages us, she makes us want to improve ourselves. Her positive outlook on life and fitness is contagious.
Her commitment to her clients is amazing. She is always there to listen to your concerns and answer any questions. She doesn't judge your choices. She is just there to provide other options to help you achieve your goals. One of the things that we love is, she has always tried the workout before she makes you do it!

If I could describe Kyla with one word it would be AMAZING! I have been active all my life but had resigned myself to be a person that would always be “kind of heavy” you know the feeling. I started working with Kyla after my second son was born, and through her program things started to happen. I had more energy almost immediately and with two small children can’t we all use that. I was sleeping better, and some of my long standing medical issues became more manageable.

Coming to Kyla was an Easy decision! If it wasn’t the isty bitsy Bikini or the “wedding dress”.... one would say she “had me at hello”
Kyla embodies change and helped shape and tone my body through consistent and positive feedback and encouragement. Kyla retained my attitude while I retained my body and in a short time had me looking and feeling my Best!
From Dancing as a young Girl I endured many injuries mainly to my back, with Kyla I was able to strengthen my core and subdue my constant back pain making me one happy girl!
Through Kyla, I received Motivation and a wealth of information on food and nutrition which goes hand in hand with training, which I am still carrying though in my day to day. Maintaining my weight has been easy but without that kick in the butt I wouldn’t have had this new desire to “really” understand what I am eating, and more importantly when I’m eating. (which wasn’t enough) This was a tough one to understand but build your metabolism and it will build you energy.
I loved “work out” days, knowing I was finally going to be challenged after a long day at work, ok and maybe unload a little!
Kyla truly cares about everyone and it show in how when asked “how was your day” She actually listens, (unlike Husbands lol) and turns the energy you show into a great workout, weather its Ball Slams after a hard day, or Yoga after a long day….. and you don’t want to be around but I was thankful Kyla was when it was time to bring out the Heavy bag!

Kyla became my trainer when I had my first baby and needed to get back in shape for my wedding. She helped me come up with an eating plan and exercise schedule that worked with my busy life as both a mom and business owner. I achieved all my goals, and was feeling great on my wedding day!
After the birth of my second son, I again needed to kick it up a notch and lose those extra lbs. that tend to "stick"after babies. In a matter of 6 months, I was not only back to my pre-pregnancy weight, but looking and feeling the BEST i have ever felt in my life. I wanted to write to express how much I appreciate her, and what she is doing with and for me. Kyla is AMAZING, she makes working out fun and extremely enjoyable:)
I have already lost 30 lbs and feel like a new person. I have muscles and a new found energy that I have never had before. The training is intense, however safe and extremely rewarding!!

I started seeing Kyla in Spring 2011. She was my yoga student and I was looking for a personal trainer on the advice of my chiropractor. I tore my left hamstring in Fall 2009 and had been having a very difficult time rebuilding the strength in my left leg in the year following. My abilities inside and outside the yoga room were being substantially affected by the residual effects of the injury on my strength. Kyla assured me we could get on track to help solve that problem.
I started out slowly with my work outs as even from being in great condition yoga wise, I didn't find that translated much into fitness stamina. I had to really push myself! It was (and is) very hard. I expected to feel tighter from the workouts, but the opposite happened. I was stronger and more flexible in the yoga room! Kyla has a way of encouraging me to do my best in the gym without having to say much. Her example of health inspires me during my workouts and reminds me what is possible when you are persistent AND consistent.
Not only have I started working out at home, but I've made a lot of life changes as well. The biggest change has been the regularity of my eating, and incorporating more fresh vegetables into every meal. It has been Kyla's blogs, and our talks about food and the way we treat our bodies, that have motivated me to make these changes. She reminded me how easy it can be.
I work in the industry of health, and in my opinion the most important part of being an educator is how you motivate your students/clients to live their lives AFTER they leave you. This happens trough being kind but honest, and being open to putting your life in the spotlight so others can observe you as an example. Kyla does both these things very naturally.
I have more energy, strength and feelings of vibrant health than ever. I would recommend Kyla to anyone in a heart beat. Thanks Kyla, you rock!
