Understanding the WHY

Whether you are an avid gymer or athlete or maybe you have just begun your road to health and well being, either way, have you ever stopped to ask yourself WHY?
What makes you set the alarm extra early to make sure you make it to the gym, or to the track?
The general immediate answers are all typically the same....." i want to get in shape, I want to fit into my bathing suit.....yadda yadda yadda" but what is your ACTUAL reason. Is it really the bathing suit??
So once summer is over are you back to NOT fitting into your bathing suit again????
There has to be something a bit MORE than that short term reasoning....even if you don't know it yet, there is something more. There HAS to be.

I agree that it is completely unlikely that we, as society will ever NOT care about the esthetics's and the superficial reasons, but I feel very strongly that our success rates will sky rocket when we each discover our deeper reasons.
If you exercise for mobility and ability, otherwise having healthy joints, allowing you to get up and jump when the doorbell rings, or to chase after your toddler (  or your children's toddlers). Maybe you are a part of a hiking club and you are required to keep your joints in top shape.
Perhaps you are an athlete and your JOB is to perform at the top of your game at all times. For YOU, your reasons are now involving your families well being along with your own. This is a very valid reason for your efforts.

Genetics- Are you born into a family with health problems? Heart disease, Diabetes, Obesity, alcoholism......Are you literally scared for your life?
This is a common reason why people in their 30's 40's and 50's begin a fitness regime. Yes with genetics you are more susceptible to incurring such health problems, it IS NOT however inevitable.
YOU are in control, remember this is YOUR life, not THEIRS.

I personally LOVE the look of muscle, on both men and women, and MY personal goal is to be as lean as I can...... On a livable level. Now I say LIVABLE because all too often when we look at the fitness magazines and we see the fit bodies on every page, we immediately assume that these athletes look this way year round.
FALSE!!!!
These are fitness competitors or models who have prepared for a show or for this particular shoot- this takes time, intense training and nutrition manipulation. There are some fitness models who are in photo shoot shape all year round, but this is their JOB, much like a professional athlete, their livelihood rests on their physique.

If looking this way is THAT important to you, you need to accept what that means, and what your lifestyle will look like.
You will have to be ok with limited to no social indulgences, lots of sleep and likely regulated measured meals at all times.

Now, your reasons for training may change through time, and that is normal and just fine, all I ask is that you check in with yourself and ask WHY-
Ask WHAT is the importance to YOU???

This is YOUR life, be proactive and be healthy~
BALANCE is key
